When I learned about the UPM’s 100-km ultra-marathon for a cause, my first thought was to signify my intention to join. After all, I, too, share their passion for running and have been running 3-4 times a week now for years (as if! =Þ).
A second later, reality sank in. Run 100km continuously?!!! In 15 hours and 30 minutes? What the –?
Well, anyway, hats off to my orgmates who are confident enough to run that. I am not even prepared for a marathon yet—a “mere” 42.5 km—much less an ultra! Truthfully, I don’t think I will ever be prepared for it. There are just some physiques which do well with long-distance runs; mine unfortunately does not belong to that group. I am not putting myself down; I’m just stating a fact. I know, for instance, that no matter how hard I train, I won’t ever be an elite runner. It’s not in my genes or in my body structure. Limitations are real, and I’m not banging my head against the wall just because I am limited in that capacity.
My UPM orgmates are something else again. So, maybe they have a really good chance to finish the ultra safe and sound. Let’s support them and the children cancer patients they are helping! keli, you don’t have to be an "elite" runner to do an ultra. all you gotta do is put one foot in front of the other. the ultra runner’s mantra is "rfp", as in relentless forward progress.

set your mind to it. you might just surprise yourself. 🙂
the human body has the ability to adapt. you will be amazed at how much you can achieve if you constantly train for it.

running an ultra is also a dream of mine. i envy your orgmates. i wish i could join them in this noble and historic run. well, there’s always another time. 🙂
I like the term RFP. I made it my mantra in last week’s 15km run. 😉 by the way, caloy, this will not be the first and only time they’re organizing an ultra. hopefully in the next one, you can join them. hehe.
