Whew! I just finished the Manila leg of the adidas King of the Road, and I am so happy to have set a new personal record! My previous PR for the 10K was in the New Balance 2006 (00:58) and I could not beat it last year. However, my time now for the same distance is 00:56. I know it’s still slow for serious runners, but after all, I am “only” a fun runner, so the improvement means a lot to me. 😉
Of course, some people (they are usually the older runners who have been there and done everything) are right when they say that PRs are not everything. They say that it’s the quality of the experience, and the friendships you’ve formed that matters more.
I wholeheartedly agree! But for a novice runner like me, planning achievable goals like setting a new PR every year does a lot for my motivation to run. After all, I haven’t even plumbed the depths of my ability as a runner. Who knows? I might go sub-40 soon! (Not bloody likely, but nothing is impossible right? And besides, I can dream, can’t I?)
If you’re enjoying it, the PRs will effortlessly. ^_^ pace with you soon -_^
